As we continue to connect with our fellow employees and work to build bridges with those who share our mission, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs invite you to explore the "
HBCU Graduates at VA" group on LinkedIn.
This group is a social networking opportunity for VA employees who graduated from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and current HBCU students.
In creating this new online space, we can work together and leverage the expertise and resources of all parts of our organization, making a greater impact and driving lasting change for our employees and the Veterans we serve.
A place for networking VA has a strong network of individuals who attended HBCUs, and we’re working to build better lines of communication among current VA employees interested in discussing their experiences with each other, as well as with the next generation of prospective VA employees.
Within this hub on LinkedIn, the goal is to create an organic space that strengthens our internal networks and highlights the stories and successes of HBCU alumni within VA.
This platform allows us to not only recognize recruiting efforts within the HBCU community at VA, but also enhance those same efforts by building a
diverse network of employees and connecting them with upcoming graduates.
A place for sharing The vision for this space is to facilitate conversation among current employees who are HBCU alums and prospective candidates currently attending HBCUs. Combined, this space may very well shape the path from HBCUs to VA for future employees.
That all starts with conversations. Even as we post relevant stories and content related to HBCU opportunities, highlights, and partnership news, we’ll be encouraging you to have conversations about your experiences at your college and at VA.
We’ll also open participation to current students and recent graduates who may have questions about working at VA. Your experiences will be invaluable to growing our diverse team of professionals and, in turn, offering better care for the diverse group of Veterans we serve.
A place to discuss our mission Our workforce should be an accurate representation of the
Veterans we serve. Caring for the most diverse group of Veterans in history requires the assurance that everyone—employees and Veterans alike—feel included in the work that we do.
By working together and leveraging the expertise and resources of all parts of the organization, VA makes a greater impact and drives lasting change.
“This is a place to share and amplify the successes and exciting news of our colleagues,” said Kendra Lee, associate director of VA Bedford and co-founder of the HBCU Graduates Workgroup at VA. “Please, ask questions, and share the amazing work you’re doing. Let’s inspire the next generation of VA leaders.”
Work at VA If you are a graduate of an HBCU and work at VA, or if you currently attend an HBCU, join us and share your story.
