Functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operational function of SPS. Manages staff scheduling, unit coverage, and support the NM/ Chief SPS and staff to achieve compliance related to performance measures and accrediting agencies. Collaborates with the purchasing of reprocessing equipment, material and RMD as needed. Uses established programs, comply with trainings and procedures of procurement. Creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. Is responsible to providing staff input for their performance evaluation. Demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning, leadership in delivering and improving care through collaborative strategies with others. Supports and enhances the development of professional competence and competencies and facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other healthcare disciplines and workers throughout the organization and within the healthcare community.
Works cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments; makes caring for the Veteran her/his priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work; and is self-motivated in the pursuit of meeting professional work standards. Accountable to adhering to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice. Responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidence-based nursing standards of practice and continuous quality improvement projects that result in improved services for all customers. Provides leadership in improving processes by effectively guiding personnel in the delivery of high-quality services and products consistent with the plans of other health care providers.
Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Promotes interdisciplinary cooperation, assess & analyzes the needs of the departments, and coordinates services in an effective and resource-efficient manner to assure total management of the identified needs. Assumes responsibility for the processing and delivery of services and products and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in service level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Must be a professional, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on operational needs.
Collaborates with leadership, by substantial, continuous responsibility, and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care. Is delegated as Acting NM/ Chief SPS as needed. Is responsible for the management and supervision of assigned personnel and the evaluation of SPS operations. Assures compliance with the sterilization process at the main facility, Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) Ponce (POPC), Mayagüez CBOC (MOPC), and any other location using RMD. Provides leadership by identifying and maintaining SPS/ lnfection control standards for the practice of all clinical services at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) and the CBOCs. Assesses the environment, analyzes trends, transmits data, communicates ideas, develops and implements policies, initiates programs and systems and collaborates in the management of resources. Has knowledge in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection/sterilization process, adult education, infectious diseases, communication, program administration and epidemiology. Demonstrates expertise and comprehensive understanding of the decontamination/sterilization process as well as infection control practice issues. This role involves clinical administrative, research and educational components which impact patients and health care personnel throughout the facility. Assesses educational needs of clinical staff in the use of RMD and implements educational plans to meet those needs. Keeps employees informed about important aspects of personnel management and programs.
