Title: Full Time English Faculty
Unit: MCCC/MTA Unit Position
Reports To: Dean of Liberal Arts
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The faculty member is a creative, knowledgeable and flexible individual who provides instruction to a diverse student body, teaching courses in the English Department, primarily integrated developmental reading and writing, co-requisite composition courses (such as the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) model) and second semester composition which includes research and writing in the disciplines. The faculty member works with the dean, department chair and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of coursework and curriculum relevant to the English department and participates in college service and student advisement. The faculty member must be committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement.
Teach fifteen credits in integrated developmental reading and writing, co-requisite composition courses, and other courses as needed each semester;
Explore new pedagogies that accelerate and contextualize developmental instruction such as the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) and the Reading Writing & Reasoning (RWR) accelerated learning models;
Develop and use student-centered pedagogies;
Develop and use assessment strategies that maximize the developmental learning process and measure student learning outcomes;
Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities;
Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom, including use of computer labs, laptops, or tablets for the instruction of composition;
Support and foster a culture of civic and community engagement;
Participate in department, division, and college committees and activities as needed; and
Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association. See https://www.middlesex.mass.edu/humanresources/downloads/mccc.pdf
This is a full-time MCCC faculty position with benefits.
Salary: The Full-Time Faculty salary under the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement is based on the classification placement table with a base salary of $45,996; actual salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of the MCCC/MTA Agreement based on the candidate's academic credentials, related experience, related licenses and certifications. Qualifications & Requirements
Master's degree in English, writing, teaching writing, reading, rhetoric, composition, literature, or Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Literacy, Language and Literacy, reading pedagogy, or a related discipline;
Successful classroom teaching experience in developmental and/or college-level composition and/or reading;
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, continuous professional improvement, developmental education, inclusive pedagogies and use of technology to support student learning.
Willingness to work collegially with a diverse body of faculty and staff on departmental, divisional and college-wide initiatives;
Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities; and
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
Community college teaching;
Experience with innovative developmental pedagogies;
Demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative instructional approaches in the teaching of reading and writing, openness to interdisciplinary instruction, and a willingness to integrate technology such as use of computer classrooms, laptops, or tablets into classroom lessons;
Proficiency in a Learning Management System like Blackboard Learning Management System; and
Interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
