The Department of Health Studies (DHS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the School of Education (SOE) at American University invite applications for the tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Health and Education Equity commencing in August 2024. This is a joint position between the two units. The primary unit will be in the Department of Health Studies.

About the position
Position responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, producing high-impact research and scholarship, and working in collaboration with health and education professionals. This position is seeking faculty who have demonstrated a commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should bring a promising research agenda with potential for external funding, ideally focused on health and education for Latino populations.
Key responsibilities include:
· Maintaining an active research agenda.
· Teaching courses in both DHS and SOE a typical 2-2 course load.
·Advising and mentoring students.
· Pursuing external research funding.
· Providing service balanced between DHS and SOE and the university community.
Qualifications & Requirements Minimum qualifications [Assistant Professor]:
· Doctorate in health, education, or a related discipline. (ABD Candidates expected to have PhD in August 2024 will be considered)
· Demonstrated commitment to antiracism, within their practice, research, and teaching.
· Strong potential in scholarly activity (e.g. publications in scholarly journals, and including collaborative, evaluation, and community-based research).
· Demonstrated evidence of or potential for excellent and equity-based teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
· Experience with and/or commitment to advising/mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
